Competitive Stream

Competitive Stream

The Mitcham competitive stream is usually referred to as the ‘ Squad program’.

This program features four different squads : Mini’s, Development, Junior and Senior. These squads work towards local, state and national competitions.

In addition to learning their apparatus routines with our talented coaches from the Ukraine and Australia, the squad gymnasts also work with a ballet and bodywork teacher to perfect their technique.

The success of our squads is achieved by focusing on clear processes. This requires discipline, commitment and attention to detail ensuring that the gymnasts develop the necessary skills to enable them to be both successful gymnasts as well as preparing them for life’s future challenges.

The Mini’s Squad is for our youngest gymnasts who have shown a natural talent for the sport and may potentially go on to become national or international competitive gymnasts.

The Development Squad is again for young gymnasts, generally coming through from the recreational stream, and has a focus on apparatus work and introducing the girls to competitions.

The Junior Squad is where the girls establish themselves as gymnasts and begin to compete at events such as the State Championships and National Clubs Carnival. Typically a Junior squad gymnast is training in the levels 5-8.

The Senior Squad gymnasts work towards performance opportunities including being selected on the State Team for the Australian National Championships, as well as being selected for high performance training programs such as the Australian Institute of Sport’s Team Future camp.
